Discussion:

We started by discussing the dissertation ideas I had, focusing on the metrics, aims & objectives. We broadly defined what the "theme" would be.

Following on from the dissertation proposal presentation (Dissertation Proposal Presentation.ppt), there were a number of recomendations:

  1. Review aims and objectives to ensure that you are very clear on these.
  2. Appropriate references need to be included in proposal.
  3. More detail on how you are going to carry out the project implementation and evaluation.
  4. Outputs of research need to be more specific.



Agreed tasks for next meeting:

  1. Reduce focus of project from "web2.0 tools" for "collaboration & knowledge sharing". Try to focus on a business problem which is achievable during the project timeframe.
  2. Update Dissertation proposal document to reflect these changes.



Comments:

  1. In terms of re-stating your aims, the key point here is to make sure all your aims are measureable in some way, for the most part.
  2. You should definitely discuss the idea of making Web 2.0 tools sufficiently transparent so that senior managers can use them without know that they are, and then what are the affordances of such an approach.
  3. You should consider the open source approach to the development end of things. http://sourceforge.net/
  4. You should look at a definition of both "knowledge" and "knowledge management" as you see them, particularly the collobrative element http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constructivism_(learning_theory)
