Agreed Task 1:
"Reduce focus of project from 'web2.0 tools' for 'collaboration & knowledge sharing'. Try to focus on a business problem which is achievable during the project time-frame."One of the suggestions following my dissertation proposal presentation was that I needed to 'review aims and objectives to ensure that you are very clear on these'. The original project title was 'fuzzy' in terms of applicable specifics.
We had discussed the use of Web2.0 tools by individuals who may not have had the exposure to the social networking, blogging, wikipedia etc. We felt it was important to make the use of these tools as transparent as possible to the end user.
So I decided to pursue the
workshop wiki idea. This now sharpens my focus as follows:
| From
| To
|
Technology
| use of web2.0 tools | use of wiki's |
Aim
| to improve collaboration & knowledge sharing in the enterprise | to improve knowledge capture and efficiency in business workshops. |
This allows me to focus on a single problem to analyse and hopefully propose a solution. I can also direct my attention on individuals who have experienced the organisation and running of workshops within my organisation. I will be looking at:
- What are the key requirements for setting up a workshop?
- What is needed to run a workshop?
- How is the communication between participants and the facilitator managed?
- What are the outputs of a workshop?
- What are the common difficulties experienced in the overall process?
- Which elements can the use of wiki help improve?
Agreed Task 2:
"Update Dissertation proposal document to reflect these changes." - (from agreed task 1)
I have created a version 2.0 of my dissertation proposal. This includes updates to the aims and objectives.
Comments:
"In terms of re-stating your aims, the key point here is to make sure all your aims are measureable in some way, for the most part."This will be addressed as part of agreed task 1 above.
"You should consider the open source approach to the development end of things. http://sourceforge.net/" I had a look at the wiki projects on SourceForge. There is one which particularly interests me - Mindtouch Deki Wiki. This wiki is simple to download and install, very user centric and includes many features suited to enterprise wide use. I will discuss this more at our next meeting.
I am very happy that you suggested this, as I had not specifically thought about open source.
"You should definitely discuss the idea of making Web 2.0 tools sufficiently transparent so that senior managers can use them without know that they are, and then what are the accordances of such an approach."This is something that I think will be very important to the overall project. I want to focus on the deliverable - functionality, user-centric, easily configurable etc. Once the process is right, I want to show that technology is only the enabler for the achievement of the improved efficiency in methods.
