Due to a knee operation on 12/10/2007, I have not been able to commit as much time to the project as I had originally expected. We postponed our scheduled Supervisor Meeting on Thursday 18th of October. This worklog covers the period 11/10/2007 - 25/10/2007
Dissertation Document:At our last meeting (
Supervisor Meeting 3), we defined a rough dissertation structure overview. I have documented this on the main
dissertation page to guide my chapter preparation.
I have also put together a page on
knowledge management which outlines my understanding of the term in relation to the scope of this project and also what business can gain from implementing a knowledge management strategy.
I have drafted the first version of the introduction chapter. It can be seen
here. We will need to review, edit and refine this, but it is making a start which is important.
I have been reading many papers in the areas of wiki use, collaboration, Web2.0 adoption and knowledge management.
Some new concepts such as IT Consumerisation -
and "Shadow IT" -
have emerged, and these will be important for me to address in terms of the governance of grassroots Web2.0 adoption within enterprises.
Pilot in AIBI have met with 2 more groups within AIB since the last meeting.
1. Head of Enterprise Business Applications - This meeting was to find out how the wiki-based portal proposed would interact and make use of existing information management applications in the enterprise. We discussed how the portal would handle document storage and retrieval from archive servers and also the power of this solution in linking URL based archived documents through search and retrieve.
2. Head of IT Architecture - I met with 2 of the IT Architecture team to discuss the use of a wiki-based platform for collaboration. They mentioned that collaboration was something that was currently on their agenda and that they were actively evaluating and researching the use of similar tools such as Microsoft Sharepoint Server and IBM Lotus Quickplace (Quickr). I gave them a presentation of the overall concept. The result was that they were very interested in my idea. They invited me to present at their next IT Architecture Design Authority Meeting which includes members from the main Republic of Ireland Division, Capital Markets, UK and Poland. They also said that they would facilitate the Pilot of the Confluence installation within the enterprise.
